Russian Foreign Ministry: We will raise the issue of Canada's violation of the Convention against Drugs
The Permanent Representative of
Russia to International Organizations in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov, said that Canada, which last summer codified the use of marijuana, violated the United Nations Convention against Drugs.
He told a news conference on Monday that the international community had always responded to the facts of the violation of the Convention.
"But the situation has changed this year as a result of the Canadian efforts, which have blatantly violated the Convention by passing a law on the legalization of marijuana, and we support the critical consideration of international commitments in this area.
The Russian diplomat also expressed his belief that Canada had thus opened the Pandora Fund. "Now we hear there are calls to legalize heroin, and the number of violators is increasing, which is of great concern," he said.
